Community Care Assessment of Disabled Adults

There are many circumstances giving rise to adult assessment which fall, directly or otherwise, into what might be described as “community care” provisions.

Individuals qualify for assessment under community care legislation by right. The local authority must conduct an assessment if so requested, and should indeed do so as soon as there is any intimation that an individual may require such an assessment. However, the quality and breadth of such assessments can be woefully inadequate. Carers are entitled to be informed of their own right to separate assessment during the conducting of a community care assessment.

There are numerous issues associated with community care assessment capable of giving rise to dispute, such as a local authority’s "eligibility criteria", direct payments, rights of carers, adaptations to property, and charges for services. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

I have extensive experience in working with all aspects of assessment, brokerage and service provision to adults within the ambit of “community care”
